Hello and Welcome to Chancery Lane! My name is Ingrid Capron and I am the proprietress of this Tudor style establishment which is centrally located in the beautiful Hamlet District of Delmar, NY. Chancery Lane is a personal triumph after the fallout I experienced from corporate downsizing, in relation to the worldwide economic downturn. As a sixteenth generation American, it is also a tribute to my maternal grandmother and grandfather who both came from long lines of entrepreneurs originating from England and France. My great great Grandfather was Guilliaume Marchand (William Merchant in English) and his portrait will be prominently displayed as a symbol of bonne chance!
My mother has traced our English roots back to Richard III of England. Chancery Lane is a street in London derived from the original Chancery Court. This was the first court in England which used a sense of "fairness" to decide legal matters rather than just a King’s decree. I have used the regal theme for my sign and logo but wish to incorporate a much more modern sense of fairness and integrity in all of my business transactions. Although I am proud to be of English and French decent, I am also glad my ancestors decided to make that journey across the ocean in the late 1600s in search of something unknown in the Americas. The store is inspired by my European roots to take on the form of English and French Country eclectic decor. I will be specializing in ‘smalls’ and accent pieces. I also hand paint furniture and bring it to you a much lower cost than through catalogs and big box outlets. The timing couldn’t be better. The painted European and particularly French styles are really hot right now and were the predominant theme at the 2009 NY International Gift Fair. I have noticed this property many times over the years when traveling to Delmar. This quaint town is noted for its many lovely Craftsman style homes so the Tudor style at 351 Delaware Avenue is a special place. I more closely gravitated toward this building owned by Dr. Gerry Winn in the late spring of 2009 and called his number on a lark or ‘chance’ of fate being in my corner. It’s that life -long dream that I had kept mostly to myself thinking it would never materialize. Forgive me if you see me pinching myself now and then to see if I’m still dreaming. I invite you to stop by and take a look at my eclectic décor, antiques and gift store. I’ll always have coffee out and a pot of tea steeping along with something good to munch on while you shop. I hope to meet up with you soon in my real life dream called Chancery Lane. Best Regards, Ingrid Capron Proprietress |
